I'd like to discuss with you today why it's important to obtain an attorney as soon as possible following an accident.  A qualified attorney can help you avoid some of the pitfalls and mistakes that could negatively impact or be fatal to your claim.  An attorney will help explain to you what your rights and responsibilities under the law are.  It will help guide you through the legal system to help ease your anxiety about who will pay your bills, lost wages and compensate you for your injuries.  It will secure documents, witness statements, videos, photographs that will help prove your case and it will deal directly with the insurance companies so they don't attempt to take advantage of you.  For example, if you didn't have a qualified attorney you might feel compelled to give a written statement or recorded statement to an insurance adjuster who may later use those words and twist them against you.  If you didn't have an attorney you may miss important filing or notice deadlines that could eliminate your ability to receive financial recovery for your case.  Some of those notice deadlines are short and it's 30 days from the date of the accident so no matter how severely injured you were, if you came to us on the 31st day we may not be able to help you.
